BMW has been preparing the iX5 Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle for several years. The car was first shown back in 2019, when it was still a concept. However, last month the brand published photos from road tests of the model and already announced that it would launch the innovative product at the end of 2022.

The BMW iX5 Hydrogen is based on the regular X5. Visually, the new model differs from the latter only in minor stylistic solutions in the design of the front and rear, as well as the presence of contrasting blue inserts that denote the eco-nature of the hydrogen crossover. Technically, of course, there are more differences. The hydrogen crossover is equipped with an electric motor producing 374 hp (275 kW), and the electricity it needs is generated by fuel cells running on hydrogen. The gas is stored in two pressurized tanks, which hold up to 7 kg of hydrogen. The tanks are made of carbon fiber. A full hydrogen refill takes 3-4 minutes.
