At a testing ground near Vancouver, there were 2,966 cars, none of which had even covered a kilometer. All of them were deemed unfit for use on public roads.

The reason for such a massive write-off is a powerful snowstorm that hit the port of Halifax in 2014. These BMWs and Minis had just been delivered to Canada and unloaded from the ship when the bad weather began. The impact of snow and salty sea water was so destructive that the cars were equated to vehicles that had been submerged in water.

Canadian transport authorities issued a recall order for these vehicles, prohibiting their use. The vehicles were taken to an open lot and left there without further action.

In the published photos and videos, BMW 3, 5, and 7 Series sedans, M4 and M6 sports cars, as well as X1 crossovers are visible. Among them are also Mini Coopers. According to the accompanying documents, the batch even includes hybrid sports cars BMW i8. The fate of these cars has not yet been decided — they cannot be sold, but no one has started scrapping them either.
