Ideally, the SUV should have been called Grand Compass, as it is an extended version of the regular Compass. However, the Americans decided to give the new model a unique name.

In fact, the new Jeep Commander differs from the Jeep Compass in its increased dimensions (lengthened wheelbase, rear doors, and overhangs) and a more spacious interior. It also has modified rear windows and rear pillars, as well as different bumpers and taillights.

The main highlight of the Jeep Commander's interior is three rows of seats. The front panel features a digital instrument cluster (10.25 inches) and a multimedia screen (10.1 inches) – just like the Compass. The top trim will boast rich equipment, including adaptive cruise control and an automatic braking system.

Commander buyers will be offered a choice of a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 200 hp (with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4x4 drive) and a 1.3-liter turbo engine with 185 hp (with a 6-speed automatic and 4x2 drive, optionally with a 4x4 system).

The Jeep Commander will be produced in the same place as the Compass – at the plant in Goiana, Brazil. From there, it will be distributed to other South American countries.
