As follows from the video, at the beginning the Germans praise the new ID.4, talking about its main advantages. Then at some point a fuel-powered Subaru Outback appears in the frame, covered in mud and decorated with a sticker saying “I love nature”. Obviously, in this way VW hinted that gasoline engines and a sense of kindness to nature are incompatible. And for this they used a Japanese gasoline car.

It is worth noting here that the unusual video came out right after the fiasco with Volkswagen's April Fools' joke (recall, earlier it was reported that the concern allegedly plans to rename itself to Voltswagen). Moreover, Volkswagen's criticism of a competitor would probably make sense if the German brand did not sell three gasoline-powered crossovers on the American market - Tiguan, Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. The company from Wolfsburg already has several electric cars, and yet most of its lineup at the moment are cars equipped with internal combustion engines.
Perhaps Volkswagen chose Subaru as a victim because of the strong positions of this brand: in the first three months, the Japanese sold 2.5 times more crossovers in America than the Germans.
