As can be seen in the photo, the phantom patrol car is indeed difficult to recognize at first glance. It looks like an ordinary gray Skoda Kodiaq crossover with civilian license plates. It is only given away by inconspicuous special equipment (recognizable only up close) – strobe lights mounted on the bumper, as well as flashing beacons and a violation recording radar installed under the rear window. Similar equipment, by the way, is also present at the front, but in this case it is not visible, as the car was photographed only from the rear.

It should be noted that the first phantom patrols in Ukraine appeared at the beginning of the year. So far, they operate in test mode, with only four vehicles (the other three are also gray Kodiaqs). Phantom patrols are capable of covertly recording violations in both the same and opposite directions. After recording a violation, the crew can stop the driver and hand them an administrative violation report.
Currently, phantom patrols are working to detect speeding cases, but later their "functionality" will be expanded. By the end of 2021, the number of such sentinels is planned to be increased to 150 units, and by 2024 there will be 300 of them.
