Of course, what is "rolled" into the road is not the waste paper itself, but the ash made from it. Paper that cannot be recycled is burned and then used as road surface – instead of asphalt and concrete.

In terms of strength, ash is not inferior to concrete, while its production is cheaper and more environmentally friendly – this should be the advantage. According to preliminary estimates, using paper will reduce CO2 emissions by 65-75%.

The new technology was patented by the company Acciona, and the project itself was named Paperchain. Its goal is to turn waste from the European pulp and paper industry into new resources.

So far, several road sections have already been built from waste paper in the province of Valencia. Initially, Acciona intends to promote its product throughout Spain (it is claimed that this could save up to 18,000 tons of cement per year), and later enter foreign markets. Of course, the company pursues not only environmental goals, but also the task of making good money on the new business.
