Yes, in the first half of 2021, 86,459 road accidents occurred in Ukraine (an average of 478 accidents per day). At the same time, for the same period in 2020, 72,394 road incidents were recorded (an average of 398 per day).

There is detailed statistics by region, and as follows from the published data, the accident rate increased in almost all regions. And this is despite the fact that the police are introducing new and constantly expanding existing systems to combat violations (auto-fixation system, TruCAM radars, increased fines, etc.). The most problematic in this regard are the capital and nine regions:

  • Kyiv – 21,238 accidents (+21.3%), 47 people died (0%);
  • Kyiv region – 7,867 accidents (+29.2%), 92 people died (-37%);
  • Odesa region – 7,552 accidents (+16.5%), 63 people died (-18%);
  • Dnipropetrovsk region – 6,840 accidents (+24.3%), 120 people died (-0.8%);
  • Kharkiv region – 5,770 accidents (+10.6%), 83 people died (-7%);
  • Lviv region – 5,547 accidents (+18.4%), 93 people died (-18%);
  • Zaporizhzhia region – 3,493 accidents (+19.1%), 55 people died (-18%);
  • Donetsk region – 2,209 accidents (+14.2%), 55 people died (+4%);
  • Poltava region – 2,153 accidents (+24%), 52 people died (-5%);
  • Zhytomyr region – 2,067 accidents (+23%), 72 people died (+5%).

Also, the Ministry of Internal Affairs separately named the most dangerous highways:

  • Highway M-06 Kyiv – Chop: 176 accidents, of which 38 were fatal;
  • Highway M-03 Kyiv – Kharkiv – Dovzhanskyi: 92 accidents, of which 28 were fatal;
  • Highway M-05 Kyiv – Odesa: 68 accidents, of which 22 were fatal;
  • Highway M-12 Stryi – Ternopil – Kropyvnytskyi – Znamianka: 68 accidents, of which 18 were fatal;
  • Highway H-03 Zhytomyr – Chernivtsi: 44 accidents, of which 14 were fatal.
