According to Volkswagen AG, from 2022 the car will no longer be sold in the US. In the same year, Volkswagen will cease production of the Passat sedan in the US at its plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Volkswagen Passat has a fairly rich history in America: initially, various versions of the famous sedan were sold on this market under the names Dasher and Quantum. The "most correct" Passat appeared in the US in 1990.

American Volkswagen Passat is being discontinued

Over the decades, the model showed good sales, but crossovers and electric vehicles did their job – in recent years, the Passat has noticeably lost popularity. Since the beginning of 2021, only 6,800 units of the model have been shipped to customers.

Now Americans are looking more towards the Volkswagen Atlas and Tiguan crossovers. In addition, they are beginning to show interest in the recently launched electric SUV ID.4. By the way, it is the latter that will replace the Passat on the assembly line in Tennessee.

In Europe, the days of the Volkswagen Passat are also numbered. For now, production of the model has been moved from the German plant in Emden (it was also given over to the production of "electric cars") to the Czech Skoda plant in Kvasiny, but it is expected that already in 2022 or 2023 it will suffer the fate of its American counterpart.
