In Kyiv, the permission to drive at speeds up to 80 km/h on certain road sections, which was previously in effect from April 1 to November 1, is no longer valid. Viktor Cherniy, head of the municipal enterprise "Traffic Management Center," explained that no street in the city meets the requirements stipulated in traffic rules.
The reason for this decision was the high accident rate on these stretches. Given that drivers often exceed the set limit by 20 km/h or more, in practice it was possible to accelerate up to 100 km/h in the capital, which created additional risks.
Furthermore, Kyiv cyclists opposed the increase in the permissible speed to 80 km/h. It was also noted that along the main city highways there are public transport stops without special pull-off bays, as well as establishments that are actively visited by local residents.
