For example, the updated 2026 Jeep Cherokee, even in the top Overland trim, has abandoned leather upholstery. Instead, they use a material called Capri, which gives a premium impression while meeting modern eco-friendly production requirements. Infiniti has taken a similar path — the QX60 crossover now features TailorFit upholstery, which contains 65% recycled materials.
European manufacturers are also keeping up with the trend. Škoda offers Recytitan fabrics (78% recycled PET) and Technofil, based on ECONYL® nylon, which is made from used fishing nets and textile waste. Land Rover uses Ultrafabrics materials in Range Rover models, while Polestar lets customers choose between certified wool or MicroTech and WeaveTech upholstery.
The reasons for such decisions are clear: care for the environment and the demand for modern, functional, and durable materials. The new fabrics are no worse than leather in terms of comfort, are pleasant to the touch, resistant to wear, and easy to maintain. Additionally, automakers can reduce carbon emissions and show customers their commitment to environmental values.
