According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and insurance companies, the greatest demand among criminals is for mass-produced and well-known models. The leader of the anti-rating was again Toyota Camry (2007–2018 model years) – 847 cases of theft were registered. Its weak protection systems in older generations and high demand for spare parts made the car a "favorite" of thieves.

The second place went to Lexus RX – 612 cases. The popular crossover is valued for its high liquidity on the black market and ease of resale, including abroad. Another Toyota representative, RAV4 (584 cases), closed the top three.

The top ten also included:

  • BMW X5 – 521 cases,

  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class – 498,

  • Audi Q7 – 441,

  • Toyota Land Cruiser – 389,

  • BMW 5 Series – 367,

  • Lexus GX – 334,

  • Mercedes-Benz GLE/ML – 312 cases.

Regional statistics

The largest number of thefts occurs in Kyiv and the region – almost 2,850 cases, which is a third of all in the country. At the same time, the average cost of stolen cars in the capital reaches $28,000, which is twice the national average.

In second place in terms of the number of reports is Odesa region (1,234 cases). Here, premium SUVs, which are transported through seaports, disappear most often. Next come Kharkiv (987), Lviv (856), and Dnipropetrovsk (734) regions. Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava regions also remain at risk.

Why they are stolen

The key reasons are obvious: high popularity of models, high demand for spare parts, and the presence of weak points in security systems. In addition, thieves often work "to order" when a specific model is needed for sale abroad.

Modern alarms with GPS trackers, mechanical immobilizers, and guarded parking lots help protect cars from criminals. However, the main factor is the vigilance of owners, because even the most reliable electronics can become vulnerable to professional criminals.
