The new FJ Cruiser is planned to be built exclusively as a five-seater with five doors. The car will be based on a ladder frame chassis, will get permanent all-wheel drive and an independent front suspension. The list of off-road equipment will be quite extensive: in particular, a reduction gear, electric drives for locking the center and rear differentials, as well as the ability to disconnect the rear anti-roll bar are provided. Additionally, the arsenal will include a system that disables stabilization and a choice of driving modes depending on the nature of the road surface.
The exterior of the model is planned to combine the styling of the Land Cruiser Prado J250 and the original FJ Cruiser produced in the 2000s. Among the characteristic features are enlarged bumpers, durable plastic protection for wheel arches, rear doors that open sideways and carry a spare wheel. The rear pillars will be made blind, and additional travel equipment — boxes, canisters, ladders, and more — can be installed on them.
The technical basis of the new FJ Cruiser will be the Toyota IMV platform, which is used for the company's most practical models, including the Hilux pickup. This implies a reliable and unpretentious design with four-cylinder engines with a displacement of 2.0 to 3.0 liters and traditional hydromechanical automatic transmissions. Such technical content clearly indicates: the car is being prepared not for show on asphalt, but for real off-road.
