The compact electric crossover got a price tag of 699 thousand crowns, which is equivalent to about 73 thousand dollars. For comparison: the five-meter Volvo XC90 starts at 619,900 crowns (about 64,500 dollars).
Volvo chose the domestic market for the start of electric car sales not by chance — in Sweden in 2019, the share of electric cars in the structure of new car sales was 8.1 percent, which is the second result in the world, second only to Norway.
And although the electric version of the XC40 Recharge cost more than twice as much as the base petrol modification of the XC40 (294,900 crowns or 30,700 dollars), buyers met the new product with interest: in the first day, several thousand pre-orders were placed.
Volvo says that serial production of the XC40 Recharge will begin in the second half of 2020, and the first owners will receive their cars closer to the end of autumn. By 2025, the Swedish brand intends to introduce four more models with zero emissions and bring the share of electric cars in total sales to half.
The first electric Volvo is built on the same CMA platform as the standard XC40. Under the hood is a dual-motor setup producing 408 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque. According to the WLTP cycle, the range reaches 400 kilometers, and to restore 80 percent of the charge via a 150-kilowatt terminal, about 40 minutes will be required.
