As Autocar reports, citing an official representative of the German brand, the production version of the model will be presented a little later, but the car may appear in European showrooms as early as next year.
The new product is based on the modular MEB platform. The crossover will become the production version of the Crozz concept car. In addition to modifications with a single electric motor, the range includes all-wheel-drive versions equipped with a pair of power units — one on each axle.
Apparently, the appearance of the production car will largely repeat the show car, which debuted in 2017 at the Shanghai Motor Show. The concept had a length of 4625 mm, a width of 1891 mm and a height of 1609 mm, with a wheelbase of 2773 mm.
A year earlier, a heavily camouflaged prototype of the ID.4 was demonstrated at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The company emphasizes that in terms of interior capacity, the production car will be close to the Tiguan Allspace model. In the future, Volkswagen's electric lineup will be supplemented by the ID.5 coupe-crossover. By 2025, the German manufacturer intends to launch production of more than 20 models with electric power units.
