Let's make it clear right away: despite all its freshness, the Citan is not a revelation for us. In fact, what we have here is a reworked "heel" van from Renault Kangoo.
Apart from the exterior, the Mercedes-Benz Citan and Renault Kangoo are essentially the same car |
The German and French manufacturers joined forces in 2010, and the Citan became the first model produced under this collaboration (other joint projects are ahead — for example, a new generation of Laguna may well appear on a Mercedes-Benz platform). Moreover, the Citan did not just borrow the platform from the Kangoo. Both models will come off the same assembly line located in France.
The interior of the Citan (top) and Kangoo will be built on the same scheme. However, the German version will get more expensive trim materials and more electronic options |
However, the Citan will stand out not only in exterior but also in the cabin — the German car, as befits its status, is destined for a more solid interior. Otherwise, there are no surprises. Like the Kangoo, the Citan will be offered in several versions (all-metal van, cargo-passenger, and purely passenger variants), and the length of the car will also vary: from 3940 mm for the shortest version to 4710 mm for the maximum "long" modification (an intermediate version of 4320 mm in length is also provided). Under the hood, there will be only one gasoline engine with 114 hp, as well as three diesels with outputs from 75 to 110 hp.
