The impetus for this conclusion was information spread by Western media: in particular, it is reported that American dealers have recently been informed that the last BMW i3 units for the US market will roll off the assembly line in July 2021.

As reported by Bimmertoday, this is the first step towards a complete abandonment of the i3. In 2022, production of the i3 at BMW's Leipzig plant will be completely stopped for other markets as well.

Rumors about the closure of the BMW i3 project have been circulating for a long time. The car has become outdated both morally and technically – it was born back in 2013. In 2018, the model underwent an update, but still, the hatch clearly falls short of modern electric vehicles. For example, the infotainment system in the BMW i3 no longer matches the level that buyers of a new premium car expect, and the range leaves much to be desired.

Instead of the i3, BMW will focus on developing new models, as well as "supporting" fresh electric vehicles like BMW i4 and BMW iX (both, by the way, debuted this year and will hit the market in the coming months, and the iX already has Ukrainian prices). However, the name i3 may still stay with us: for certain markets, such as China, the Bavarians are preparing an electric counterpart to the 3-Series sedan – such a candidate is more suitable than anyone else for receiving the iconic name.
