We are talking about a fleet of 645 thousand cars: 225 thousand are assigned to government employees, 173 thousand to the military, and another 225 thousand to postal workers.
In his address, the 46th President of the United States noted that priority will be given to electric vehicles produced at American factories. This step, according to the new administration's plan, should not only reduce the burden on the environment but also give a boost to the domestic job market.

The transition to eco-friendly transport will also allow the authorities to save significantly on fuel — currently, the entire US government fleet covers about 11.6 billion km per year, burning over 1.4 billion liters of fuel. For comparison: out of those 645 thousand service vehicles, only about 3,200 units currently run on electricity.
The timeline for the complete replacement of the fleet is not specified, but it is obvious that the process will be gradual, in stages. As for suppliers, most likely, Tesla, Ford, and General Motors will offer their options for Biden. Elon Musk's company already has a wide range of electric vehicles, the "blue oval" has the battery crossover Mustang Mach-E and the electric Transit van, and in the future, a "plug-in" version of the F-150 pickup is expected along with other new products. GM, in turn, recently showed the electric postal van EV600, and last year — the GMC Hummer EV pickup (on the cover), which, by the way, could well be useful for the military.
