Traditionally, the research of British colleagues is based on a survey of 13,000 motorists. In particular, the latter were asked about breakdowns that occurred with their "iron horses" over the last year of ownership, the cost of repairs (under warranty (free), inexpensive, or expensive) and the time to fix the malfunction (a day, a week, up to a month).

Interestingly, none of the 50 models showed a reliability level lower than 95.6%. At the same time, three cars turned out to be completely unbreakable – their result was 100% reliability. Actually, these models topped the rating.

WhatCar also emphasized that the age of the cars taken into account was limited to eight years, since such cars make up more than half of the entire used car market in the UK.
