The Volkswagen Group stopped production of the VW Golf for the American market last week (the model was produced at the company's plant in Mexico). As emphasized by the German brand, instead of the iconic hatchback, they will now focus on promoting the Jetta sedan, as well as the new compact crossover Taos. The Germans place a special bet on the latter model.
However, Volkswagen decided to retire not the entire Golf family, but only its regular versions. The hot Volkswagen GTI and Golf R will still be available for American buyers, and they will be supplied directly from Germany.

The Volkswagen Golf has a rather rich history in the USA. The car entered this market back in 1974, and over this time more than 2.5 million units of the model have been sold. Currently, the new Golf can still be bought in America at a price starting from $24,190, but soon warehouse stocks will run out and the model's history overseas will end.
As for the "wrecked cars" from America, traditionally many sixth and seventh generation "Golfs" are now sold at auctions. They can be bought for $2-4 thousand.
