Just a year ago, for 160 thousand hryvnias, a Ukrainian could buy a quite decent car. For that money, one could even buy a crossover - Renault Duster or Nissan Juke, for example.

If we talk about the budget car segment, for 100-120 thousand hryvnias one could look at Renault Logan and Peugeot 301. Moreover, 140 thousand hryvnias would be enough to buy a diesel sedan Peugeot 301/Citroen C-Elysee in a decent trim.
It is important to note that since April 14, 2013, after the introduction of special duties, foreign cars in Ukraine have become slightly more expensive. However, the dollar exchange rate at 8 hryvnias still allowed buying a not bad foreign car for 17-20 thousand dollars.
Over the past few months, prices for new cars in Ukraine have changed several times, and the percentage of increase could change almost daily and amount to 5-7 percent of the car's cost. After the recent cancellation of the recycling fee and reduction of special duties, some hoped for a decrease in the cost of new cars. But... in hryvnias, it still does not appeal. Especially when compared with prices before the devaluation of the national currency.

Autoportal regularly updates prices in the catalog of new cars, so our editorial team knows firsthand about the frequency and percentage of price changes. It is important to note that in foreign currency equivalent, the cost of new cars in Ukraine has changed insignificantly. But it is unlikely that at least 5% of working citizens have had their salaries in hryvnias increased, given its devaluation. Hence the alarming drop in sales and decrease in purchasing power.
As for prices, we provide a comparative table that shows that the jump in hryvnias was 20-40 percent. If converted to dollars, there are models that have become cheaper, but their cost in hryvnias is still frightening if you recall the exchange rate of 8-8.5 hryvnias per dollar versus the current floating 11-12 hryvnias.
