The updated hatchback can be seen live in early March at the Geneva Motor Show, and European sales of the restyled Scirocco will start in August this year. Volkswagen plans to deliver the updated model to other markets by the end of 2014.

The exterior restyling did not affect the body's structural elements, limiting itself to changes in external components. It can be said that the front and rear bumpers and the radiator grille have become more expressive, and the new headlights received LEDs for daytime running lights, while the rear lights are fully illuminated by LED elements.

Traditionally, for restyled models, the wheel rims have received a new design, which can be 17-, 18-, and 19-inch. Also, five variants of the new "signature" body colors are offered: Pyramyd Gold, Urano Grey, Flash Red, Pure White, and Ultra Violet.

There are few changes in the interior, but they give the Scirocco cabin the previously missing "zest," reminding of the model's "hot" character: a slightly different steering wheel, a modified dashboard with different air ducts, and a set of "sporty" gauges on top of the console. The new instruments, besides the aesthetic effect, also carry a quite practical load: a boost pressure gauge, an oil temperature sensor, and a chronometer have appeared.

There are no revolutionary changes in the powertrains, but the entire lineup has been slightly refined, and all engines received a small power increase. The least (3 hp) went to the base 1.4-liter engine, whose power is now 125 hp.

The most power was added to the three two-liter gasoline engines, which, depending on the settings, now develop: 180 hp (+20 hp); 220 hp (+10 hp) and 280 hp (+15 hp). The 2-liter diesel engines are also boosted to 150 hp (+10 hp) and 184 hp (+7 hp). All of them are paired with a 6-speed manual or a six-range DSG "robot."

Volkswagen is preparing the new generation Scirocco for 2018. This model will fully comply with the parameters of a sports coupe.
