This is reported in an analytical report prepared by the Institute of Car Market Research of Ukraine.

Analysts note that due to the global decline in car production caused by a shortage of microchips and semiconductors, EU countries have faced a shortage of new vehicles. As a result, the popularity of used cars has increased.

For example, in Poland in July, 204.5 thousand used cars were listed for sale on online platforms — 15.6 thousand fewer than in the previous month. At the same time, the average price in the secondary market has risen and now reaches about $5,375.

The Institute of Car Market Research expects that used cars in the EU will continue to rise in price. On the one hand, fewer relatively fresh cars will enter the secondary market due to the current crisis in car production, and on the other hand, Europeans will more actively buy inexpensive used cars, preferring them to public transport amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, this will lead to European cars entering the Ukrainian market less often, and their cost will increase. In addition, such a situation may provoke an increase in offers of "worn-out" cars — with hidden faults and altered mileage.

But in the United States, as AutoPortal previously reported, prices for used cars, on the contrary, have begun to gradually fall after a sharp rise in 2020.
