The engineering approach turned out to be maximally pragmatic: at the rear of the car, he placed an 8 kW gasoline generator, which cost 2,800 yuan (about 390 dollars). To avoid questions from law enforcement, a spare license plate was even installed on the generator — just as is often done when a bicycle obscures the state number on the trunk.
From the generator, a standard Tesla charger was powered via an extension cord. As the owner said, even at significant altitude, where the air is rarefied, the unit confidently held a power of 3 kW. This allowed replenishing the range by about 19 km per hour — which turned out to be enough to reach the cherished goal.
After the successful attempt to conquer Everest, the owner does not intend to stop. Now he plans to head to remote, uninhabited areas of Tibet. And all this — on a Tesla that carries a gasoline generator with it.
