The condition of many Ukrainian roads to border checkpoints is deplorable. This is especially noticeable when entering from EU countries – the contrast is immediately felt. Gradually, the situation will be improved.
Earlier, 150 km of such roads were already repaired, and the plan for 2021 is 250 km. In total, by 2023, 600 km of border highways will be put in order.

The work plan for 2021 has also been announced. Most roads will be repaired in the Zakarpattia region. On the border with Slovakia, repairs are planned for the following sections:
- 3.5 km of the P-53 route to the checkpoint "Malyi Bereznyi-Ublia";
- 13 km of the M-08 road (bypass in Uzhhorod) to the checkpoint "Uzhhorod-Vyshne Nemecke".
On the border with Hungary, the following roads will be repaired:
- 5 km of the M-06 route Kyiv-Chop to the checkpoint "Tysa-Zahony";
- 35 km of the M-25 road to the checkpoint "Solomonovo – Velyka Dobron – Yanoshi" with an approach to the checkpoint "Kosyno";
- 24.6 km of the M-24 road Velyka Dobron-Mukachevo-Berehove to the checkpoint "Luzhanka";
- 7.7 km of the M-26 route between two checkpoints – "Vylok" and "Diakove" (on the border with Romania).
In the future, a new bypass road in Berehove will also be built and two new checkpoints will be opened – "Diida" on the border with Hungary and "Bila Tserkva" on the border with Romania. It is also planned to connect the N-09 route Lviv-Mukachevo with the Romanian highway Baia Mare – Borsa.
