The new owner paid 40,000 dollars for a 1985 Toyota Corolla GT-S (AE86 series, the last rear-wheel-drive Corolla). For comparison, for that kind of money you can buy a new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Many automotive experts are frankly puzzled how one could pay such an impressive sum for a "tired" and quite ordinary car. Indeed, the Toyota Corolla GT-S of the AE86 series is not such a rare car, and besides, this example has body flaws (no through corrosion, but there are "rust spots", dents, cracks, and scratches), and the odometer shows not such a small number – 180,111 km.

Either way, a buyer was found who did not begrudge big money for this car. Probably, it was either a Toyota collector or a die-hard fan of the model, who, obviously, intends to restore the purchased example.

The Corolla GT-S differed from the regular AE86 (1983-1987) with pop-up headlights and a more powerful engine – a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder unit with 114 horsepower. The transmission is a 5-speed manual, and such a coupe was equipped with a limited-slip differential.
It is noteworthy that a new Corolla GT-S cost almost four times less – in the US it was priced at 11,500 dollars (though, one should not forget about inflation over the past 36 years).
