“Luhansk in spring. A young couple poses against the backdrop of a just-delivered BMW 525 with European license plates, around the mid-nineties,” — this caption is given to the photo.

The photo shows a BMW sedan in the E28 body. This model was produced by the Bavarian manufacturer from 1981 to 1987. Under its hood could be petrol or diesel engines, paired with manual or automatic transmissions, and starting from 1985, ABS was added to the list of equipment. In those years, the car was among the fastest on the planet: with the top engine, it accelerated to 225 km/h.
On the sedan's body, elements of tuning are noticeable: a spoiler is installed on the trunk lid, and there are sporty stickers on the sides. For most Ukrainian drivers in the nineties, such a car remained only a dream.

It is worth adding that in the period from the collapse of the USSR to the mid-nineties, quite a few foreign cars were already found in the territory of the former Soviet republics, however, as a rule, they were cleared through customs and registered immediately after import. In any case, it is quite possible that this BMW also eventually received Ukrainian plates.
