The automatic tire inflation system helps maintain the required pressure, which extends tire life and reduces fuel consumption by a few percent. The main drawback of this development so far is the weight of the device, which reaches 2.3 kilograms, so its installation is justified only on trucks.
The Halo mount is attached to the hub, and the pump operates on the energy of wheel rotation using a pendulum principle. The "compressor" is activated by a signal from the pressure sensor. Calculations in the US have already shown savings of about $2,200 per year due to longer tire life and reduced fuel consumption. Additionally, there is no need to regularly visit a service center for pressure checks and inflation. Notably, test units have covered over 12.5 million kilometers during trials.
The developers plan to reduce the device's size so it can be installed on SUVs, where quick changes in tire pressure are important for navigating difficult terrain.
According to the manufacturer, Halo is highly reliable, and installation takes five to ten minutes. Pre-orders are already being accepted online, but the device's price has not yet been announced.
