The Heijin Q6 is built on the platform of the second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero, which was created by the Mitsubishi Changfeng joint venture. When joint production ended in late 2011, Changfeng Auto retained the rights to use this platform for its own models.

In production form, the familiar look of the Mitsubishi Pajero is only hinted at in the body contours of the Changfeng Liebao. The engines also came to the Chinese by inheritance — these are gasoline units with a displacement of 2.2 and 2.4 liters, as well as a 2.5-liter turbodiesel. All of them are paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

In addition to selling SUVs to private buyers, Changfeng is counting on government orders — for the police, the army, and even fire services.
