To bring this plan to life, the manufacturer is returning production of the next-generation Lexus ES sedan to Japan. This frees up capacity for the most in-demand segment in the American market — crossovers and SUVs. As Reuters reports, the electric vehicles being prepared for release will either take the styling and ideas of their gasoline predecessors as a basis, or simply use their names, even despite significant structural differences.

The electric Land Cruiser SE concept, presented in 2023, already gives an idea of a potential successor to the legendary SUV: significant dimensions, a spacious family interior, and modern equipment. However, even more important for the company will be an electric SUV aimed at the RAV4 audience — since this model is currently among the top three bestsellers in the US. If the newcomer manages to achieve the level of popularity of its gasoline counterpart, it will become the main driving force for Toyota's electric vehicle sales, while the bZ4X has not yet lived up to expectations.

In addition to expanding its lineup of electric cars, Toyota is also betting on localizing production near key sales markets. This approach should reduce customs costs and shorten delivery times for customers.
