The Italian publication Autoblog reports that in terms of proportions, the BMW i6 will be similar to the i Vision Dynamics concept (photo), which debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017. At the same time, the appearance of the new model will be in the spirit of the coupe-like 8-Series Gran Coupe.
According to unconfirmed information, in the base configuration, the i6 will be equipped with a pair of eDrive electric motors: the unit located at the front will be able to develop 204 horsepower, and the motor on the rear axle — 340 horsepower. The total output of such a setup will be 544 horsepower, which will allow the new model to compete with the Porsche Taycan 4S, which has 530 horsepower. The i6 M Performance version, in turn, will be equipped with two electric motors of 340 horsepower each and will be able to compete with the Taycan Turbo with a power of 625 horsepower.
For the BMW i6, two variants with batteries of 90 and 120 kilowatt-hours are provided: with the base battery, the range will be up to 560 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, and the most autonomous versions of the sedan will be able to cover up to 700 kilometers without recharging.
It is expected that the BMW i6 will not be an exact copy of the "eight" and will be an independent model with its own electric powertrain, unlike the i1, i4, i7, or iX3, which will be eco-friendly versions of the 1-Series, 4-Series Gran Coupe, 7-Series, and X3, respectively.
BMW officially does not comment on the possible release of the i6 electric car. The Bavarian brand plans to bring to market by the end of 2021 the compact electric sedan i4, as well as the iX3 and iNEXT crossovers.
