The electric version of the Volvo XC40 will become the first fully "green" model of the Swedish brand. Since there will be no internal combustion engine under the hood, engineers will have to strengthen the front part of the body. Also, the crossover will get a noticeably lower center of gravity thanks to batteries placed in the floor, which will improve the vehicle's stability and reduce the likelihood of rollover. The batteries will be enclosed in a protective frame made of aluminum profiles, which will further strengthen the central zone of the body.

The rear part of the structure will be reinforced by an electric motor integrated into the power frame to properly distribute loads during an impact. This will reduce the risk of severe injuries for the driver and passengers in the cabin.

In addition, the electric XC40 will be equipped with a modern set of electronic active safety systems, which operates based on several radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors.

Currently, the Volvo XC40 already has a version with a plug-in hybrid that can be charged from a regular outlet.
