The new "hot" versions of the crossovers received a fresh three-liter turbocharged engine developing 480 horsepower, and when ordering the optional Competition Package, power increases to 510 hp. The engine is paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. Engineers also equipped the X3 M and X4 M with an all-wheel drive system borrowed from the current M5 sedan, but adapted for the crossover platform.

The sprint to 100 km/h takes 4.2 seconds for both cars, while the version with the Competition package handles this exercise in 4.1 seconds. The electronic limiter prevents acceleration beyond 250 kilometers per hour.

The suspension of the "charged" crossovers has been seriously revised: improved anti-roll bars, adaptive dampers, and steering with variable ratio. The driver can choose one of three driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport +. The body has become stiffer in torsion, floors were reinforced, and the braking system was modernized.

Externally, the new models are distinguished by aerodynamic mirrors, bumpers with larger air intakes, unique alloy wheels, a spoiler, and an exhaust system with four tailpipes.

Serial production of the BMW X3 M and X4 M is scheduled to start in April. The price of the models will be announced later.
