The "boxy" design is a thing of the past; the only thing that has survived from the previous generation is the stepped roofline. The new Discovery has grown in length to almost 5 meters (4970 mm), but has become slightly lower (1846 mm). Having moved to a new aluminum platform, the SUV has shed almost half a ton of weight, with the minimum curb weight now at just 2099 kg.

The interior of the newcomer is clearly styled after its premium siblings under the Range Rover brand. The front panel is now adorned with a 10-inch display of the proprietary InControl Touch Pro multimedia system, which is compatible with smartphones and provides Wi-Fi.

As previously reported, under the hood of the new Discovery will be two-liter Ingenium diesel engines with outputs from 180 to 240 hp, boasting enviable fuel efficiency – average consumption from 6 to 6.3 liters per 100 km. More serious units will also be available – a three-liter diesel V6 with 249 hp (600 Nm) and a supercharged petrol Si6 V6 3.0 producing 340 "horses" and 450 Nm. All engines work in conjunction with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Off-road capabilities have not disappointed either. The upgraded air suspension can raise the Discovery by 283 mm (+43 mm), allowing the vehicle to ford almost a meter of water. Additionally, the model should handle a 45-degree incline. The proprietary Terrain Response 2 off-road assistance system can be configured for virtually any road conditions.

The new generation Discovery is equipped with almost all modern active safety systems, including an automatic braking function that operates in the range from 5 to 80 km/h. The SUV can also park itself and even reverse with a trailer, thanks to the Advanced Tow Assist system.
