The new model will get a refined version of the existing two-liter turbocharged engine. The output will be 345 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, which is 35 horsepower and 50 Nm more than the current "hot" hatchback. The car will remain front-wheel drive and will be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission.
According to preliminary data, the new Civic Type R will accelerate to 100 km/h in about five seconds — that's 0.7 seconds faster than its predecessor.
It is planned that the concept version of the "hot" hatchback will be shown at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 2016, and the production version of the model will be presented a year after that.
The current generation of the Honda Civic Type R was officially shown in March 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show. This hatchback accelerates to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and its top speed reaches 270 kilometers per hour. At that time, it was also reported that the model set a Nürburgring record among production front-wheel-drive cars, completing the "North Loop" in 7 minutes 50.63 seconds. In March 2016, this result was improved by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S, which completed the track in 7 minutes 49.21 seconds.
