The debut of the new model will take place this year at the October motor show in Paris. As for the production version of the electric crossover, its market appearance should be expected no earlier than in three years.
It is noteworthy that Mercedes-Benz is considering the possibility of forming a separate sub-brand, under the auspices of which the brand's "green" models will be produced. Such a lineup will become a direct competitor to BMW's electric i family.
"By the end of this year, we will release three electric vehicles — these are the B-Class and two variants of the smart. At the end of next year, a car with a new generation of fuel cells will hit the market — this will be a vehicle based on the GLC, which produces no harmful emissions," Ola Källenius, who is responsible for sales and marketing at the concern, told Autocar.
Källenius also noted that by the end of 2017, Mercedes' model range will include ten hybrid vehicles.
