Production has started in the American city of Spartanburg, where the first examples of the X4 will soon roll off the assembly line.

Its debut is scheduled for the New York Auto Show in a couple of weeks. Sales will start closer to summer 2014.
Competitors for the new model, which is built on the BMW X3 platform, are seen by manufacturers as the Porsche Macan and Range Rover Evoque.
The BMW X4 engines are represented by six power units. Three diesel - 2L, 4 cylinders and 190 hp; 3L, 6 cylinders 258 hp, and a similar one, "tuned" to 313 horsepower. There will also be three petrol - two 2-liter, with 184 and 245 hp, and a 3-liter with 306 hp.

The transmission is offered either as a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive will be available even in the "base" version.
Earlier, AutoPortal conducted a test drive of the BMW X6 40d and X6 35i and wondered what is better - "petrol" or "diesel".
