The reason for the price increase is obvious and is related to the devaluation of the hryvnia against the dollar and the euro. In addition, Ukraine's fuel reserves are actually close to zero, which creates a fuel shortage.

The situation with diesel fuel is even worse than with gasoline. The sowing campaign is approaching, which usually leads to higher fuel prices even in "quiet years." And in the current situation, given that a significant portion of diesel fuel is imported from Russia and Belarus, it could become more expensive by another one and a half hryvnias. On top of all the troubles, the Verkhovna Rada has adopted a bill on excise duty on diesel fuel. All this, by the way, will add numbers to food price tags.

In general, if unforeseen situations do not occur, fuel price increases are expected within the range of hryvnia exchange rate fluctuations. However, it should not be forgotten that, based on our specifics, prices usually have only one vector of movement - upward. So if the hryvnia exchange rate suddenly stabilizes, a corresponding reduction in fuel prices should not be expected.

However, some decrease in fuel consumers is also expected - as AvtoPortal wrote, in March the Ukrainian car market collapsed record-breakingly.
