The new SUV is built on a stretched Jeep Grand Cherokee base, which in turn is based on a modified platform from the Mercedes-Benz ML.

Two gasoline engines are available for the model. The entry-level option is a 3.6-liter V6 from the Pentastar family, producing 260 horsepower. At the top of the range is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 360 horsepower, which features a cylinder deactivation mechanism under low load, helping to reduce fuel consumption.

According to Dodge, engineers have achieved such fuel efficiency that the Durango can travel approximately 800 kilometers on a single tank. The V6 version can tow up to 2,812 kilograms, while the V8 version can tow up to 3,356 kilograms.

Inside, the SUV features three rows of seats that can be configured in 22 different combinations. The new Dodge Durango comes equipped with a blind-spot monitoring system for lane changes, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, and a function that alerts the driver of a potential collision with vehicles ahead.

Production of the new model will soon begin at Chrysler's plant in Detroit, with first deliveries to American dealers starting at the end of this year.
