Residents of the United States are known not only for their recently sparked interest in hybrids, but also for their love of amateur or semi-professional tuning and car building, especially since there is plenty of raw material for such experiments in the country.

Specialists from the small firm Auto Be Yours from the town of Scottsburg, Indiana, got their hands on a pair of wrecked cars: a Toyota Prius and a Subaru Baja. The latter model is a pickup truck based on the Subaru Outback and was in decent demand in the States at one time.

Reasoning that such excellent Japanese cars should not go to waste, the craftsmen decided to literally combine them into one whole. The hybrid system from the Prius remained untouched, since it so happened that the Baja had a damaged front end, and the Prius had a damaged rear.

Without dwelling on aesthetic concerns, Auto Be Yours assembled one car from the two and, apparently, were pleased with the result. At any rate, they are now looking for a new owner for their "Frankenstein." The exact price is not disclosed, but a sum of "just over 20 thousand US dollars" is mentioned.

True, it remains a mystery how such a creation is registered in the documents and how it can even be used on public roads. Apparently, the craftsmen have already resolved this issue, since their work is hardly suitable as a museum exhibit. Although, perhaps this project is just a hint for Toyota Motor: Americans clearly lack a pickup truck based on the Prius!
