Contrary to expectations, the new rules turned out to be not so attractive – in some cases, the cost of legalization may exceed the price of your car.

This is clearly demonstrated by the infographic published by the Auto Euro Force community on its Facebook page.

As you can see, the image shows the cost of customs clearance using the example of a Volkswagen Golf IV from 2001 with a 1.9-liter diesel engine. The total amount needed to legalize this car is 54,374 UAH. At the current exchange rate, this is exactly 2,000 dollars.

At the same time, such "Golfs" are sold in Europe for just 1,500-2,000 euros. It turns out that such a car "costs" the buyer about 4,000 dollars. However, for the same money, a Golf IV can be found on the domestic market – already with Ukrainian registration.

Let us remind you that by adopting the aforementioned laws, officials promised to make customs clearance for all imported "euro plates" at the level of 1,000 euros. Although there were still exceptions: the documents apply only to cars of at least Euro-2 standard, and they cover only those vehicles that were imported before December 31, 2020 inclusive. "Plate owners" were given 180 days for everything.
