The Patrol Service of Ukraine demands the fastest possible adoption of legislation that would regulate the use of electric scooters and other means of light electric mobility.
Such a statement was made by Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, who holds the position of deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, during a discussion at Ukrinform, organized within the framework of the second stage of the All-Ukrainian Road Safety Week.
"Draft law No. 3023 has already passed the first reading. Now it is important that it be adopted finally, so that the government, at the level of by-laws, can finalize all the details," Biloshytskyi explained.
According to him, currently the sphere of light electric transport remains outside the legal field — neither the police nor the government have levers to control it, which creates significant risks for road safety.
Separately, the representative of the patrol police drew attention to the need to revise the system of punishments, in particular the amounts of fines for speeding and other deviations from traffic rules.
"Today, in the field of road safety, a large number of draft laws are under consideration, and they have been waiting for their resolution for quite a long time. These issues need to be addressed," he concluded.
Document No. 3023 aims to introduce a clear legal status for electric scooters, gyroboards, unicycles, and similar vehicles, as well as to prescribe requirements for those who use them and the rules of their movement.
