The reason for the recall was the absence of welded joints on the central body pillar. As Consumer Reports notes, only nine such cars had reached owners, while the rest are still on dealer lots.
In a notice sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Japanese automaker stated that each car will be inspected by factory specialists. If poor-quality welding is found, such units will be replaced with new ones. The recalled vehicles will be sent for complete scrapping.
Along with the launch of the recall program, Subaru has suspended sales of Ascent crossovers until inspections are completed.
