The Beetle Dune is based on the platform of a regular road hatchback, but its body dimensions are somewhat different: the length has increased by 12 mm to 4290 mm, and the width has added 55 mm, reaching 1864 mm. The most noticeable change is the ground clearance increased by 50 mm, which now stands at 195 mm.

Under the hood of the off-road version is a two-liter gasoline turbo engine producing 210 horsepower. It is paired with a 6-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. There is also an electronic system that simulates a differential lock — XDS.

The Beetle Dune's equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, wheel arch extensions, chrome protection mounted at the front, and a rear spoiler with a mount for skis. This detail has become a kind of calling card for the model — a similar solution was used on the Beetle Dune concept shown back in 2000.

The interior of the all-road "Beetle" looks quite unusual and rather resembles a sports car cockpit. This impression is enhanced by the seats with pronounced lateral support and the interior design executed in a black-and-yellow color scheme.

Volkswagen also did not forget about comfort: the Beetle Dune is equipped with a multimedia system with a large touchscreen display with a diagonal of 7.7 inches.
