The new RAV4 remains on the well-known TNGA-K platform, and its dimensions, including the 2690 mm wheelbase, have not changed. Despite recognizable proportions, the car's exterior has undergone a noticeable update. The manufacturer has prepared three design options: standard Core, off-road Rugged, and dynamic Sport. Each has its own front end, but all versions share C-shaped headlights and short body overhangs.

The body design now features a black insert under the rear window that visually connects the updated taillight graphics. The model name is now placed in large letters, and the Toyota logo has been removed from the rear — reflecting a general trend toward minimalism.

Variations for every style

The Core version is designed for urban use. The Limited trim includes 17-inch wheels, LED lighting, and chrome details.

Rugged is built for travel and outdoor activities. Its ground clearance is increased by 13 mm, with massive roof rails, Rigid LEDs in the front bumper, and yellow accents in the headlights. The plastic body cladding emphasizes the off-road character, and all-wheel drive is offered as standard equipment.

GR Sport, in turn, focuses on a sporty style. The car gets 20-inch wheels, glossy inserts, red brake calipers, a black roof, and more aggressive bumpers. The suspension is lowered by 15 mm, and the steering and shock absorbers are recalibrated for sharper response.

Only hybrids: HEV and PHEV

The new generation has abandoned conventional gasoline engines. All versions are equipped with hybrid systems featuring a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. The front-wheel-drive version produces 229 hp, while the all-wheel-drive version delivers 239 hp thanks to a separate electric motor on the rear axle. The most powerful option is the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with 324 hp, available only with all-wheel drive.

Thanks to new controllers and the use of silicon carbide in power electronics, the system has become more powerful and efficient. This hybrid can travel up to 80 km on electricity alone. Charging from 10 to 80% takes about 30 minutes via CCS, but this option is only available for XSE and Woodland trims.

Technical improvements and towing capabilities

The platform has received targeted refinements: increased body rigidity, and the use of new damping adhesive that reduces vibrations and improves sound insulation. The new model can tow trailers weighing up to 1.6 tons, adding practicality for travel.

Official fuel consumption data has not yet been released, but you can refer to the previous generation's figures — about 6 L/100 km for hybrids, which is significantly less than gasoline cars. The new PHEV is expected to be even more economical.

Interior: touchscreen revolution

The interior has undergone radical changes.

The instrument panel is now fully digital, 12.3 inches, with customization options, though without a sunshade. The central multimedia display is 10.5 or 12.9 inches depending on the trim. Almost all functions, including climate control, are now controlled via the touchscreen.

Physical buttons and knobs remain only on the center tunnel, particularly in the Rugged version with a classic gear lever. In other trims, there is a compact joystick, as in premium models. A head-up display has been added, multimedia software updated, and the JBL audio system can include up to 9 speakers.

Safety and technology

The Toyota Safety Sense suite has been updated to the fourth generation. It retains the main features of its predecessor: emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control. New sensors and processors ensure faster and more accurate system operation.

The GR Sport version adds decorative details: aluminum pedals, sporty inserts, paddle shifters. The seats remain the same as in base trims — comfortable but without a pronounced sporty profile.

Summary

The Toyota RAV4 2025 is an example of thoughtful evolution. The manufacturer did not experiment with the proven formula but instead focused on improving important details. Modern equipment, more powerful hybrids, diverse design options, and improved ergonomics make the new RAV4 one of the most attractive in its segment.

The car is expected to arrive at dealerships closer to the end of 2025, with pre-orders starting in the fall.
