It all started with an appeal from local drivers to the regional office of the Consumer Protection Service — they complained about the poor quality of fuel at one of the gas stations, the name of which was not disclosed. After that, inspectors conducted a test purchase and laboratory testing of the fuel. The complaints were confirmed, and the gas station owner was fined 1,582,360 hryvnias.
The businessman disagreed with this decision and tried to challenge it, but to no avail. The courts of all three instances — first, appellate, and cassation — examined the details of the case, including the test purchase procedure and fuel examination, and recognized the fine as lawful.
As a result, the incident cost the gas station owner even more: in addition to the fine itself, which amounts to almost 60 thousand dollars, he had to pay considerable sums for court proceedings.
