Let us remind you that phantom patrols are ordinary-looking cars equipped with special equipment and special signals for automatic recording of traffic violations and stopping drivers. In Ukraine, gray Skoda Kodiaq crossovers are used for these purposes – the first batch was purchased in December 2020. The cars have not yet started service, as installation and configuration of the equipment is ongoing.

According to Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, the main task of phantom patrols will be preventive work – that is, aimed not at punishing drivers and issuing as many fines as possible, but at preventing violations and possible accidents. The police are confident that the very presence of phantom patrols and the understanding that they can move in traffic and react to violations should discipline drivers to comply with traffic rules.

"Phantoms" will record violations both in the same and opposite directions directly while moving. As soon as the system catches a motorist, the crew will turn on special signals and force the violator to stop. After that, police officers will hand the driver a protocol that will be issued automatically by the system.

The deputy head of the Patrol Police noted that there will be no plainclothes police officers in such cars – they will be dressed in uniform with all attributes.
