In the US, the tuning culture is very well developed, and local craftsmen really know their stuff. However, the GWA (Gullwing America) atelier, headed by Arturo Alonso, still stands out among others due to its unconventional approach to projects and enjoys well-deserved authority in the professional community.
The company's latest work is the open-top GWA 300 SLC. This example was created for a specific client order from Eastern Europe, and a production Mercedes SLS AMG was used as the base.
The design of the new model references the classic Mercedes 300 SC (W188) from 1955 — only 92 such cars were produced back then. For the convertible, the atelier's specialists developed a completely new body made of aluminum and also heavily reworked the interior.
Currently, the GWA 300 SLC exists in a single unit. However, if more people want to purchase such a car, the company can easily produce additional examples, adding individual details to each one.
Among other improvements made by GWA are adjustable suspension, a rigid removable roof, an updated exhaust system, and retro-style wheels: 21 inches on the front axle and 22 inches on the rear. The powertrain and gearbox inherited from the donor were left unchanged.
