Today, drivers and transport companies have addressed an appeal to President Yanukovych and Prime Minister Azarov, insisting that a plan of action to address the critical state of road surfaces be presented by March 15. This is reported by "Economic News".
"Autofront" insists on the immediate start of repair works across the country, using funds already collected. If the demands are ignored, activists promise to organize large-scale protest actions in the capital and other cities, involving thousands of cars. This position was voiced by Oleksandr Danylyuk, coordinator of the "Common Cause" movement and initiator of the creation of "Autofront", speaking at a briefing in Kyiv.
Danylyuk emphasized that the roads, destroyed after the snow melted, clearly demonstrate what the infrastructure has become. According to him, under the pretext of preparing for Euro-2012, tens of billions of hryvnias collected from motorists through fuel excise taxes and other payments were embezzled. In such a situation, he believes, the only way out is mass protests, blocking the actions of corrupt officials, and demanding the immediate restoration of road communication.
As the activist noted, Ukraine currently holds leading positions in the world in the number of road accidents caused by road conditions, as well as in the spending of car owners on repairs of vehicles damaged due to poor road surfaces.
"Drivers no longer want to finance corrupt officials and incur senseless losses. When potholes begin to take lives, negotiations are no longer appropriate," summarized the coordinator of "Common Cause".
