As local media report, a 50-year-old resident of Kassel named Uwe Czechowitz discovered the find by chance. Even before the start of winter, the motorist put a shovel in the cabin to dig the car out of a snowdrift if necessary. When the snow melted, the owner of the "five" decided to take out the tool, but it didn't work out in one go - the shovel got caught on the mat, so Uwe had to remove it. There he found an envelope containing 5,000 euros in cash and another 17,000 on a checkbook statement.

After that, Czechowitz contacted the police, who quickly found the owner of the money. It turned out to be a 69-year-old pensioner from Heidkreis, the former owner of the Renault 5. It turned out that in 2016, the man was hastily selling his Renault along with other cars due to a move. At that time, he had to do many test drives in his cars, and after selling one of them, he left an envelope with money in the Renault 5, after which, apparently, he forgot about it. Then the Renault itself was sold - first it went to a dealer, and then, in 2017, it ended up in the hands of Uwe Czechowitz.
For the find and the noble act, the current owner of the Renault was awarded a fee of 2,210 euros. By the way, the car itself cost him 1,200 euros.
