BMW Group's chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk explained in an interview with CarExpert that the bold decision regarding the exterior was driven by trends in key sales markets. For example, in China, massive radiator grilles are in significant demand, so for local buyers, such a design did not seem unusual.

Van Hooydonk noted that in Munich, feedback on the M3, 7 Series, X7, and XM models was carefully analyzed, and it turned out that sales volumes not only did not fall but even increased. This means that the daring style did not repel potential owners. The company emphasized that they do not regret these experiments, as they allowed attracting the attention of new customers.

Now BMW is taking a course towards more refined contours and a calmer design, which is already noticeable in the example of the new iX3, which appeared recently and defines the brand's stylistic vector for the coming years.
